A letter from Royce's Mum -

My son, currently 9 years old, faced unique challenges as a Level 3 ASD child, non-communicative, with dyspraxia and epilepsy. I initially hesitated to enroll him in swimming lessons when he was younger, as I was concerned about his comprehension and safety in the water. However, as time passed, we discovered his deep love for water play, leading me to seek ways to nurture this passion.
In 2019, he embarked on his swimming journey at Bubble N Kick with the guidance of Instructor Paul. At that time, we opted for one-on-one lessons to provide the tailored support he needed and to ensure his learning occurred in a safe and accommodating environment, which Bubble N Kick consistently provided.
In 2021, when Bubble N Kick relocated to their new facility, we transitioned to swimming with Kym. Right from the start, it was evident that my son and Kym developed a remarkable connection. He placed his trust in her immediately, a bond unlike any I had seen outside of our family.
One of his most significant challenges revolved around sensory issues related to water, such as splashing, water in his face, and getting water in his ears. Additionally, he faced challenges with activities that involved moving on his back due to vestibular issues. Even attempting to put goggles on him was a major hurdle.
These challenges were experienced a year ago. Fast forward to 2023, and we have witnessed remarkable progress in his swimming and coordination. He has even conquered the feat of jumping into the pool unassisted from sitting on the pool's edge. Kym's exceptional guidance has led to him comfortably wearing goggles for underwater exercises, mainly focused on encouraging him to submerge his face in the water, which he has almost achieved. We're hopeful that he will have his head fully underwater by next year. He has also mastered floating on his back and executing a survival backstroke. Remarkably, he now allows Kym to wet him with water from the jet on the side of the pool, simulating a 'shower' experience.
Kym has worked miracles in supporting Royce's progress over the past year, not only in terms of his swimming abilities but also in his sensory development. I am genuinely excited to witness where we will be this time next year and the new accomplishments that Kym will help Royce achieve in the water. "
